The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has issued interim guidance regarding assessing hard playing surfaces in the country. Playing conditions on grass pitches have been affected by this summer's prolonged dry weather and the FAW guidance highlights a safety-first approach and the duty of care for all those involved in the game, in addition to advice on maintaining grass pitches during prolonged dry weather conditions. The FAW guidance stressed: “A pitch that is rock-hard or dry to the extent that it increases the risk of impact injuries (e.g., severe joint trauma, concussions, severe turf burns) must be evaluated with the same rigor as a frozen or waterlogged surface.” The association stated that the local authority and venue owners have primary responsibility for determining if public facilities are open and fit for play. Match officials, alongside home and away team managers, retain final authority on matchday to assess if a pitch is safe for play under law one of the game. Bala Town's next fixture is against Newtown AFC at home on 2026-08-31.
